I am sure that many people think if they want to be healthy, they need to move. Dr. Jordan Metzl, in his YouTube video presentation The Exercise and cure, explains the meaning of Americans’ need to move.  Metzl says that those who live a sedentary life without any physical activities, that action alone, may lead to heart disease, a number 1 killer in America (Metzl, 2014). His concept is based on that Americans need to start moving. This shows a correlation between one’s physical activity and health status. Metzl says that “Our health care system throws a lot of money at disease treatment, the worse the medical problem the most system must pay” (Metzl, 2014). There are several health organizations that support physical activities. “The World Health Organization stated that physical inactivity is the fourth leading risk factor for global mortality” (Nunan et, al. 2013, p.1). There are varieties of barriers and factors in our life that make us less active. We have technology at our fingerprints. We can order movies, food, cloth, and furniture without ever leaving our house. Metzl mentioned a study that was published by The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA); this study expands on how “…the overweight people cost the health care system a lot of money” (2014). For the most part, our healthcare system is not preventive, and it waits until the patient has a disease, and once the patient has a health problem, only then will they intervene (Metzl, 2014). A lack of physical exercise may influence some health disorders. There is a relationship between physical activity and health status. A study on Exercise and Physical Activity for Older Adults states the benefits of physical activity and individuals' health status and functional capacity (Chodzko-Zajko, 2009, p.1510). Increasing the amount of movement provides varieties of health benefits and is taken the burden out of extra expenses on our health care system (Metzl, 2014). To solve this problem, we need to change the way the healthcare system is set up initially. Doctors may start offering their patients exercise. Patients may choose the types of activity they like, join groups, and exercise together (Metzl, 2014). Not to my surprise, the relationship between physical activity and health status is evident. We need to start moving.
